What you need to know before coming to
the Murphy Center
When is the Murphy Center open?
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Friday: 9:00 am- 5:00 pm
The Murphy Center is closed on major holidays.
Do I need an appointment for services?
Our resource specialists are available on a walk-in basis every day. Some of our other services require an appointment. You can either call the front desk to see if you need an appointment, or you can ask your resource specialist.
Who can use the Murphy Center?
We serve anyone who is either homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless, regardless of age or income. Families and individuals alike are welcome to come to the Murphy Center for assistance.
Can I bring my children to the Murphy Center?
Yes! We provide a safe environment for children with indoor and outdoor play areas. We do not provide childcare, however, so parents need to remain with children at all times.
What do I have to do to get help at the Murphy Center?
You will need to complete a brief registration form and meet with a resource specialist so you can be directed to the appropriate resources.
What is the purpose of meeting with a Resource Specialist?
Resource Specialists are here to help and guide you. They will provide you with support and resources to help you find a job, obtain housing, or work toward other goals that will help you stabilize your life.
Can I have my mail sent to the Murphy Center?
Yes. Homeless individuals needing an address for personal, business or other mail can have their mail sent to the Murphy Center after completing the registration form and meeting with a resource specialist.
Can I set up a voicemail account at the Murphy Center?
Yes. You can set up a voicemail account to receive phone messages after completing the registration form and meeting with a resource specialist.
Can I take a shower and wash my clothes at the Murphy Center?
Yes. You can use the showers and laundry room after completing the registration form and meeting with a resource specialist. However, there are a limited number of shower and laundry spots and usually a lottery is held shortly after we open to assign the spots for the day.
Are there storage areas for my belongings?
We do have lockers available, and you may use them after meeting with a resource specialist. However, there is often a waitlist to get a locker.
How to Prepare for Your Visit
- If you have any identification or proof of residency, please bring it with you. If you do not, a staff person can help you obtain a copy of your birth certificate. Please keep in mind that some programs require an I.D. in order to serve you.

- Make sure you keep your belongings with you at all times. There are lockers for guest use, but there is not always availability.
